Wild shootout at Wilmington corner store

Police are still looking for one man captured on surveillance video shooting at two people inside a Wilmington convenience store around 11 p.m. last night.

In the video, two people can be seen rushing into the La-Flor Food Market at 1100 W. 2nd Street near Van Buren Street.  They’re followed at first by one man who fires a .22 caliber handgun and then a second who opened fire with his .44 caliber rifle.  

The victims were able to escape out of the market’s back door, while the shooters opened fire on the victim’s vehicle which was parked in front of the store.  The suspects were last seen leaving in a car west on 2nd Street.

One of the victims arrived at Christiana Hospital about an hour later with a gunshot wound to the upper thigh.  He was listed in stable condition.

Police have arrested one of the men accused in the shooting.  46-year-old Frank Diaz of the 1100 block of Pleasant Street is accused of attempted murder among other charges.  Police are still searching for the second suspect, 23-year-old Luis Ortiz who lives on Moorehouse Drive.  Anyone with information on his location is asked to call Wilmington Police Detective Martin Lenhardt at (302) 576-3668.
