Who’s the bigger draw: a Delaware Blue Hen or a hot Eagle?

If there was any doubt about whether Delawareans are Eagles fans or still hold an allegance to Joe Flacco should look no further than jersey sales this football season.

A quick survey around some sports goods stores in Delaware shows that Michael Vick’s number 7 Eagles jersey far outsells Joe Flacco’s number 5 Baltimore Ravens jersey.  At Al’s Sporting Goods store on Market Street in Wilmington the Vick jersey has sold out for the 4th time this fall.  Joe Yaegar says the store should have a new shipment of jersey’s in for the playoffs.  He says the Christmas season was a good for pushing the kelly green, midnight green, and white shirts.

He says University of Delaware alums still hold the Flacco jersey as a prize.  An employee at Modell’s sporting goods in Newark, and a UD grad, says he makes sure there are always purple Flacco jersey’s on the floor.  He does admit Vick is hot and a hot Eagle player will always out draw a UD icon.

Yaegar credits his store with jumping on the Vick bandwagon early on.  He says it is one of the reasons for the brisk sales through the football season.  Vick’s popularity still carries weight in Kent County.  An employee at Legends Sporting Goods inside the Dover Mall says Vick outsells Flacco 80-20%.  She says the store has sold out of all Vick inventory twice during the football season.
