A dog is alive and well today thanks to the quick response of volunteer firefighters in Manchester Township.
Firefighters from the Whiting Volunteer Fire Company were summoned by the Manchester Police Department around 6:10 p.m. Friday for an ice rescue assignment involving a dog that fell through the ice on a pond, according to a release from the fire department.
Arriving units spotted the dog approximately 20 feet from land, clinging onto the ice with its torso and hind legs submerged, the release said.
Firefighters donned survival suits and successfully rescued the dog, who was briefly examined by animal control and reunited with its owner, according to the release.
