While in Brooklyn, Bevilacqua tried to reassign abusive priest to another diocese

Documents released today by the Survivors’ Network of those Abused by Priests show former Philadelphia Cardinal Anthony Bevilacqua tried to cover up priest abuse while he served as an auxiliary bishop in Brooklyn.

A report from the Inquirer says while in Brooklyn, Bevilacqua suggested a sexually abusive priest be relocated to another diocese. The priest was convicted in 2004 of raping a 7-year-old boy and admitted to assaulting many others between 1973 and 1983 before Bevilacqua recommended him for reassignment.

Bevilacqua served in Pittsburgh before moving to Philadelphia in 1988.
