Kicking back and feeling the summer breeze. Attending outdoor events. Heading to playgrounds and parks for a spell. Going out for a shopping stroll. Just relaxing.

Those are among the things Northwest Philly residents say they’re looking forward to doing as summer’s traditional start arrives.

From dining along Main Street Manayunk to playing basketball at a popular West Oak Lane rec center, NewsWorks caught up with residents to learn more about their favorite summertime hangout spots locally.

Growing up in Germantown, Vernon Park remains the spot for Egypt Galloway and Vakeisha Lewis, who noted they’ve seen a not-so-family-friendly vibe change for the better.

“Anyone fresh into Germantown will have no worries and will feel safe, especially in this park,” Lewis said.

We also caught up with folks at the “nice, quiet” Cloverly Park on the cusp of East Falls, Mt. Airy’s Trolley Car Diner where newly arrived residents said “Philadelphians are much nicer than New Yorkers” and, among others, along “really nice for families” Germantown Avenue in Chestnut Hill.
