West Nile Virus found in Montgomery County
A Montgomery County man has been hospitalized with West Nile Virus, according to Main Line Media News. This is the second case of the virus in Pennsylvania, and the first one to require hospitalization.
The state West Nile virus control program site and Department of Enviromental Protection report that mosquitos carrying the West Nile Virus have been found in over 33 counties, but that “the results of statewide sampling of more than one million mosquitoes have indicated relatively low amounts of WNV in that population.”
The DEP encourages residents to get rid of any standing water on their property, chlorinate swimming pools, get rid of debris in gutters, and to drill holes in the bottom of trash and recycling bins to stop water from collecting.
