West Chester resident talks about experiencing Japan earthquake

John Herley didn’t think much of the first shakes he felt during a meeting in Japan last week. The West Chester resident had heard of the county’s frequent quakes, and continued with business as usual along with his fellow St. Joe’s University grad students.

The fear set in when the shaking grew stronger and the buildings around him in Tokyo began moving.
Herley is now back in West Chester after several delays in leaving Tokyo following last week’s 8.9 magnitude earthquake. He shared his story with the West Chester Daily Local, and talked about how he used Facebook to assure his wife of his safety while communications around him broke down.
