Weekend News Briefs: 6/17 – 6/19

Friday — Authorities are investigating the shooting of a man by police early Friday morning in an incident that began outside Aria Health-Frankford. Reports say officers witnessed a car drop off two gunshot victims at the hospital, and the officers decided to follow the car. During a confrontation, officers reportedly shot a suspect near Hawthorne and Pratt streets around 2 a.m.

An 8th District officer is expected to recover after being hit by a car Friday night while attempting to thwart a crime. The officer was struck and dragged near Knights and Woodhaven roads when he tried to stop two men who had broken into a woman’s home and forced her to withdraw money from an ATM. The suspects were arrested later on the 4100-block of Carteret Drive.

Sunday — A woman has died after being struck by a car early Sunday morning. The 54-year-old was hit around 8:30 a.m. near Levick and Gillespie streets in Tacony and was later pronounced dead at Aria Health-Torresdale. The driver, 63, did stop at the scene. Authorities are still investigating the cause.
