Delaware Solid Waste Authority requests permit review for Pigeon Point landfill

State environmental regulators in Delaware will hold a public meeting tonight to discuss a request to modify Pigeon Point landfill’s permit. The New Castle County landfill stopped accepting solid waste more than 25 years ago.

As the Associated Press reports, the Delaware Solid Waste Authority wants to modify some inspection and monitoring requirements for the post-closure permit issued to the facility in 2008. Since closing to solid waste, the landfill has been used to collect power plant ash mixed with sewer sludge.
