Vice President Joe Biden visited Chris Coons’ campaign headquarters in Wilmington to show support for his fellow Democrat, and also to encourage campaign workers not to take anything for granted.  During a 15-minute pep talk, Biden told workers, “Take this as serious as you possibly can, don’t buy any of that stuff you  hear nationally that this is a slam dunk.  Assume you’re running against Mike Castle or the most potent candidate you think you could’ve run against.  Nothing has changed.”

Biden talked about his campaign against Republican Christine O’Donnell in the 2008 election, reminding workers that he did not speak a negative word about O’Donnell, and encouraged Coons to follow that practice as well.

Although it is still very early in the general election campaign, O’Donnell acknowledged Coons desire to campaign on the issues and not on personal matters during last night’s debate at the Jewish Community Center.  In her closing statement, she said, “I can’t tell you how refreshing it is to have an opponent who wants to talk about the issues.  So, I thank you for that gentlemanly approach  and for returning the “Delaware Way” back to this very important election.”

Biden said he would be back to help Coons campaign as often as he can.
