Volunteers are needed to sweep the beaches tomorrow in Wildwood Crest.

According to a release from the municipality, the borough’s Department of Public Works in conjunction with Clean Ocean Action will host the beach cleaning event between 9 a.m. and noon.

Volunteers of all ages are requested to register at Centennial Park (Fern Road and Ocean Avenue) and should wear weather-appropriate clothing. The borough will provide all necessary equipment.

Participants will collect, remove, and record valuable data about debris, which is presented in annual reports and used to advance federal, state, and local programs to reduce litter on New Jersey’s beaches and in its waterways, according to the release.

“This beach sweep will be extremely helpful to the borough’s already intensive efforts to keep its vast expanse of beaches clean,” the release said.

Last year, nearly 7,000 volunteers collected, tallied, and removed over 332,003 pieces of debris — the majority of which was disposable plastic — from the New Jersey coastline.
