Vineland’s birthday party an icing-topped success

How do you appease a small town after making plans to go outside of it to order a dessert for said town’s birthday?

    With four cakes.

Vineland Mayor Robert Romano canceled his order with reality TV’s Cake Boss, and instead celebrated the city’s 150th birthday with cakes made by four local bakeries. Three tiers, five tiers, blueberry and a timeline — the cakes incorporated the city’s history with lots of batter and icing, as the Daily Journal notes.

Local bakery owners were angry last week they learned Romano had asked the TV cake chef from Hoboken to bake the anniversary cake. But at Sunday’s celebration, there were enough local desserts to go around. You can see them in the Daily Journal’s slideshow.
