Vice President Biden returns to University of Delaware for commencement

Vice President Joe Biden will be back at his alma mater to deliver the commencement address at the University of Delaware.

 

Biden will make his fourth appearance as commencement speaker at UD. This will be his first commencement appearance as VP. He previously spoke in 1978, 1987 and 2004.

“We are honored to have Vice President Biden return to the University of Delaware to deliver this year’s Commencement address,” said Jeffrey Garland, vice president and University secretary. “The vice president has a remarkable record of public service—to this nation, to the state of Delaware and to this University. 

Biden graduated from UD in 1965 with a double major in history and political science. 

“I know his insights will be particularly meaningful to our newest graduates as they celebrate their academic accomplishments,” said Garland.

The graduation ceremony will be held May 31 at 9 a.m. at Delaware Stadium in Newark. Tickets are not required, except for those needing to sit in areas accommodating the elderly and those with disabilities. Extra security measures will be in place due to Biden’s appearance, so friends and family attending graduation should plan for extra time to get to their seats.
