Utility crews chip away on outages in Pa., Md.

Utility crews in Pennsylvania and Maryland are still trying to restore power to nearly 300,000 customers without power two days after an ice storm brought down trees and power lines.

About 250,000 customers were without power Friday evening in the five-county Philadelphia area, where many schools had closed for a third straight day. PECO spokesman Fred Maher says some customers will be without power over the weekend.

In Maryland, service has been restored to all but about 16,000 homes and businesses.

Severe cold weather that gripped the mid-Atlantic on Friday is expected to remain in place for days, and forecasters said light snow was possible over the weekend.
