Using Perzel as example, Corbett says Marcellus money can’t buy his affections

Tom Corbett wants you to know he can’t be swayed by contributions from energy companies. That was part of the message the Pennsylvania governor gave today when talking about former House Speaker John Perzel.

“If you think money given to me is going to make me do something other than my duty, than (sic) you shouldn’t have given it to me,” the Patriot-News quotes Corbett as saying.

Corbett has received more than $1.6 million on contributions from gas and energy companies during his three runs for state office. When he was state Attorney General, Corbett authorized the probe that led to Perzel’s indictment. Perzel pleaded guilty yesterday to conspiracy, theft and other charges. Perzel donated to Corbett’s campaign in 2004.
