Upper Providence hosts annual suicide survivors vigil tonight

Those who’ve lost loved ones to suicide will gather tonight at Rose Tree Park in Upper Providence for an annual candlelight vigil.

Survivors of Suicide Inc. will start the 10th annual event at 7 p.m. to raise awareness of suicide loss and prevention.

“The memorial provides an opportunity for those throughout southeastern Pennsylvania who have lost someone to suicide to share support with others and remind the community that every suicide affects many lives,” organizer Linda Falasco told the Delaware County Daily Times.

About 300 people attend each year to participate in the vigil, which includes a reading of the loved ones’ names and live music. Additionally the MaryEllen Carpenter Appreciation Award will be presented to someone who has made a significant contribution to suicide prevention.
