UD's political influence includes NJ's new governor
New Jersey’s new governor got his political start at the University of Delaware.
Last year, the University of Delaware was touting itself as the “epicenter of politics” during the presidential campaign. That moniker was first given to the school by Bloomberg News, highlighting the impact of UD alums in last year’s presidential race. Those alums include, of course, Vice President Joe Biden, Obama/Biden campaign manager David Plouffe, and Steve Schmidt, campaign manager for the McCain/Palin ticket.
Now, add the name Chris Christie to the list of politically successful UD grads. Christie, who was elected as New Jersey’s first Republican governor in more than a decade, graduated from UD with a degree in political science in 1984. Christie returned to Newark in 2004 to speak at UD’s Winter Commencement. Christie als0 received the UD presidential Citation for Outstanding Achievement in 2003.
