UD students bound and gagged in home invasion

Six students at the University of Delaware are okay after they were robbed at gunpoint in a Newark apartment.

Police in Newark are searching for four men accused of breaking into an apartment early Monday morning.  It happened just after 1 AM in the 500 building at the University Courtyard apartment complex on Scholar Drive.

After pushing their way through the doorway, police say the men covered tied up the six people inside and covered their mouths with duct tape.  Police believe the men, who were armed handguns and  a knife, were looking for illegal drugs that they believed were being sold from the apartment.  Police say while marijuana was being used in the open in the apartment, they don’t believe the home was being used for drug sales.

The intruders escaped in what is believed to be a silver four-door car with dark windows.

The same apartment was burglarized last week during the Thanksgiving break when no one was in the apartment.  During that crime, police say nothing of great value was taken.  Investigators are exploring the possibility that the two incidents are related.
