Two struck by lightning in Point Pleasant Beach

Two women were struck by lightning this afternoon in Point Pleasant Beach as severe thunderstorms were rolling through the area.

According to police, a 63-year-old woman in the area of the New Jersey Avenue beach was struck shortly before 3 p.m.

Emergency personnel performed CPR, and she was alert while transported to Ocean Medical Center in Brick.

JSHN contributors say lifeguards immediately came to her aid.

Shortly thereafter, a 54-year-old woman sitting in an enclosed vehicle in the 300 block of Ocean Avenue was struck.

Police say both women, who were in the process of leaving the area due to the incoming severe thunderstorms, suffered minor injuries.

    They’re expected to be ok.
