Two South Philly Catholic schools organize evening rally to stay open

Things aren’t looking good for Our Lady of Mount Carmel and Sacred Heart of Jesus schools.

They’re the last two Catholic schools in South Philadelphia’s Pennsport neighborhood, and they’re about to close. Unless they can pull off some kind of miracle tonight.
City Paper reports the schools have organized a rally for 6:30 tonight to convince the Blue Ribbon Commission that the neighborhood can’t afford to lose its Catholic schools.

Both say the commission didn’t even visit the schools when considering which schools to recommend for closure. The commission, of course, says otherwise.
