Two fires were set on separate days at Martin Luther King High School, according to police reports. On Wednesday, March 30 a school policeman said he had to put out a fire in two lockers. Two days later a fire was reported in the trashcan outside of a first floor girls bathroom. MLK HS is located at 6100 Stenton Avenue.



March 30, 2011

5900 block Stenton Ave. – school policeman at Martin Luther King High School said he had to put out a fire in two school lockers. Clothes and books were burned. A fire marshal ruled the incident arson.

6300 block Greene St. – complainant said two men approached her from behind, threw her on the ground and put handgun in her face. The offenders then grabbed the complainant’s cell phone and fled the scene.


March 31, 2011

1800 block W. Cheltenham Ave. – Panasonic 19″ flat screen TV and a 6″ monitor stolen from a car between 11 p.m. March 30 and 9 p.m. March 31.

7300 block N. 21st St. – complainant said an acquaintance forced her to have sex while she was cutting school.

200 block E. Penn St. – complainant walked into the hospital at 1:20 a.m. with a stab wound on the right side of his chest. He said someone approached him after he left his apartment and an altercation ensued during which he was stabbed with a small knife.

100 block W. Allens Lane – in-dash DVD player with radio stolen from a 2000 Buick LeSabre.

1000 block Sydney St. – two bikes stolen from an unlocked garage.

7700 block Stenton Ave. – two air bags and a horn stolen from a car.

7500 block Devon St. – CDs, two Pioneer speakers and tools stolen from a 2002 Pontiac Bonneville.


April 1, 2011

6100 block Stenton Ave. – a teacher at Martin Luther King High School said that an announcement came over the walkie-talkie that there was a fire in the first floor girl’s bathroom. Complainant extinguished the fire, which was in a trash can outside of the bathroom. There was no damage to the building.

7700 block Pickering Ave. – three tires with rims stolen from a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix between 11 p.m. March 31 and 7 a.m. April 1. Complainant said he returned to find his car resting on crates.

1000 block Slocum St. – complainant said he was shot in the hand while driving at the location. He was taken to the hospital.

7600 block Ogontz Ave. – complainant said she set her cell phone down while inside a nail salon and later couldn’t find it.

5500 block Baynton St. – 1995 Nissan Sentra stolen.

100 block E. Duval St. – complainant said someone stole his handgun from his 2006 Chevy Impala between 7-11 p.m. March 31. The car was unlocked at the time of the incident.

5500 block Heiskell St. – 1996 Ford Explorer stolen.

Germantown Ave. / Carpenter Lane – a student from Khepera Charter School said a student from Houston Elementary school punched him in the face and stomach while standing at the bus stop afterschool. Complainant was taken to the hospital.

100 block W. Tulpehocken St. – complainant some someone stole $400 from her wallet. She said she left the wallet unattended in the living room for about 20 minutes. When she returned, the money was missing. Only a roommate and a staff member of the building were in her apartment at the time. Both denied taking the money.

9600 block Germantown Ave. – head of security at Chestnut Hill College said a 1994 Chevy Truck was stolen from the campus. He said the college had ticketed and booted the car at 2 p.m. March 31 and that shortly afterward it was gone.


April 2, 2011

5500 block W. Godfrey Ave. – complainant said he returned home to find a stranger inside. A struggle ensued during which the complainant was stabbed in the neck with a screwdriver. Offender fled from the scene through the front door.

7800 block Ogontz Ave. – complainant said approximately eight men surrounded him. One of the offenders knocked him to the ground, while another one took his cell phone. The group then fled the scene.

6200 block Germantown Ave. – complainant said someone stole two flat screen TVs from a storage unit. Complainant said someone forced their way through the unit’s ceiling. Surveillance camera footage shows three men removing the items.

6200 block Germantown Ave. – Playstation 3, 37″ Vizio TV, Xbox system and a Wii system stolen from a storage unit.


April 3, 2011 – No crimes were reported to the police.


April 4, 2011

7300 block Pittville Ave. – complainant said someone stole her T-Mobile cell phone out of her mailbox after it was delivered.

E. Price St. / E. Wister St. – complainant said someone stole her pocketbook at knife point and fled down Price Street. Complainant later found her bag with a state ID and TD Bank card missing. The offender was later arrested.

500 block E. Haines St. – HP computer stolen from the property between sometime 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

5600 block Germantown Ave. – complainant said someone stole her wallet from the store counter after she left it there.

5700 block Wayne Ave. – complainant said someone walked into the location and said, “Open the safe”. A manager complied and handed the offender just over $1,000. The offender then fled through the parking lot.

8200 block Provident St. – 2001 Buick LeSabre stolen between 8 p.m. April 3 and 10 p.m. April 4.


April 5, 2011

Unit block Cosgrove St. – 1999 Plymouth Voyager stolen between 2-2:30 p.m. April 5. A nearby resident has a video of three men getting into the car and leaving.

600 block Church Lane – complainant said someone took $420 from her living room table sometime between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. April 4.

400 block E. Washington Lane – a student at Roosevelt School said a teacher grabbed him by the head and pushed him into the wall. Complainant went to the hospital and received seven stitches over his left eye.

Unit block E. High St. – employee at Germantown High School said someone took a Mac desktop computer from her office inside of the library.

200 block Mt. Airy Ave. – 2007 Chrysler Sebring stolen.
