Transcript:
The cancer research fundraising will take over the airwaves with a parade of actors, journalists, and musicians. It’s the first time the big three — cbs, abc, and nbc — will coordinate such a program. The Philadelphia-based American Association for Cancer Research will be in chage of doling out proceeds to researchers. The association’s CEO Margaret Foti says the event picks up where federal funding leaves off.
Foti: Twenty percent of the monies will go into high risk, very innovative projects that would normally not be funded perhaps by other agencies.
Taplin: I think it’s impressive all the various partners they got to promote it. I mean, aol and ebay and all these networks.
Annenberg professor Jonathan Taplin at the University of Southern California says the timing likely made it possible.
Taplin: Fridays are kind of not the best day anyway and the tv season as it is doesn’t really start till next week.
The program airs at 8 pm.
