Troutman pleads not guilty to rape and murder of young Souderton girl

James Troutman appeared in court yesterday, where he pleaded not guilty to the rape and murder of 9-year-old Skyler Kauffman. The 24-year-old was arrested in may after Kauffman’s body was found in a Dumpster behind the apartment complex they both lived in.

The Pottstown Mercury reports Troutman will remain in jail until the trial, when his lawyer is expected to use Troutman’s mental state as part of the defense. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
