Trivedi prevails in contest for Democratic nomination

    Manan Trivedi has defeated Doug Pike in the closely contested Democratic Primary for Pennsylvania’s sixth congressional district.

    Manan Trivedi has defeated Doug Pike in the closely contested Democratic Primary for Pennsylvania’s sixth congressional district.

    Trivedi, a physician and veteran of the Iraq War, prevailed by fewer than 700 votes in the final tally.

    Pike, a former editorial writer for the Philadelphia Inquirer, was still waiting for absentee and provisional ballots to come in earlier today, but conceded the race yesterday afternoon.

    “I was expecting this to be a very close primary,” says Pike. “Each of the candidates had strengths, and it was just hard to guess how they would add up.”

    Trivedi will face Republican Jim Gerlach in the fall.
