Trial begins for couple who left son at robbery scene

Aside from the charges they face for leaving their 4-year-old son at the scene of a robbery, John Benson and Sheakia Stubbs face a handful of other allegations: attempted murder and aggravated assault for Benson, and robbery for Stubbs.

The trial for the couple began today, stemming from last year’s robbery of a South Street store, in which the two are accused of stealing jewelry, and for which Benson faces charges for allegedly slashing the owner’s throat.

The Inquirer reports Stubbs’ attorney is arguing Stubbs had no knowledge of Benson’s intent to rob the store. Their son was not injured during the robbery, and is now staying with another family member.
