Traditional Memorial Day remembrances

Memorial Day services to be held today coincide with the traditional day of remembering fallen soldiers, May 30.

Veterans and state leaders will gather at the Delaware Memorial Bridge Plaza this morning at 10:30 for the annual Memorial Day service hosted by the Delaware Commission of Veteran’s Affairs.  This year’s ceremony will include a re-dedication of the War Memorial which has been recently refurbished by Delaware River and Bay Authority staff.

The city of Wilmington will host its traditional Memorial Day parade tonight starting at six.  The parade will start at the intersection of Delaware Avenue and Woodlawn Avenue.  The route stretches east along Delaware Avenue and ends at the Civil War Monument at Broom Street.  At the end of the parade there will be a memorial service honoring the dead of all wars.  Wlmington’s parade has been coordinated by the Wilmington Memorial Day Committee for 144 consecutive years.
