Toms River police identify bank robbery suspect hours after posting on Facebook
It’s another victory for social media.
Hours after the Toms River Police Department posted surveillance images of a bank robbery suspect on its Facebook page, along with shares by local media outlets, over a dozen tipsters recognized Jerome Gilby, 30, of Oak Street in Lakehurst, according to department spokesman Ralph Stocco.
Detectives James Carey and Randy Petrick of the Toms River Police Department arrested Gilby yesterday at his girlfriend’s house on Oceanic Avenue in Toms River and charged him with the July 10 robbery of a TD Bank branch in the township, Stocco said.
Investigators from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Ocean County Sheriff’s Department CSI Unit, Lakehurst Police Department, Brick Police Department, and the Seaside Heights Police Department worked closely to track down to Gilby, resulting in a surveillance team staking out the Oceanic Drive house and an arrest coming shortly thereafter, according to Stocco.
Gilby, who was taken into custody late yesterday afternoon, is being held on $100,000 bail, with no ten percent, at the Ocean County Jail in Toms River, Stocco said.
