Three Temple students arrested during PNC Bank sit-in

Three Temple University students were arrested yesterday during a sit-in at the campus’ PNC Bank branch.

The protests inside and outside the branch were about the bank’s financing of companies that practice mountaintop removal coal mining, The Temple News reports, and a meeting request denied by the university’s Board of Trustees. The Temple Community Against Mountaintop Removal organized the event.

Protesters say the board’s Investments Committee denied the group’s request to discuss mountain top removal at the meeting and student Melanie Rafoss raised a concern that university board member J. William Mills III is the regional president of PNC in Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey.

This isn’t the TCAMR’s first clash with the board.
