Three men sentenced to prison for 2009 ballpark beating death

Francis Kirchner, Charles Bowers and Jim Groves were all sentenced to prison yesterday for the 2009 beating death of David Sale Jr. outside a Phillies game.

The three pleaded guilty to manslaughter in October. Sale was beaten outside the ballpark after a dispute between his friends and the defendants that began inside the game.

The Inquirer reports Kirchner was sentenced to nine to 18 years in prison, with credit for the 2 1/2 years served awaiting trial. Bowers was sentenced to five to 10 years and Groves’ sentence is two to four years.
