Cradle of liberty – not

Within a few steps of the birthplace of our liberties, the folks who run the Independence Visitors Center are stiffing a citizen of the republic who’s asked for minutes of its board meetings and other documents, according to a troubling column by Ronnie Polaneczky of the Philadelphia Daily News.

It involves a tour operator who’s tried to get access to the center to promote his stuff. I don’t know the merits of his case for space on the mall, but I worked with Ronnie for many years at the Daily News. She’s a dogged and fair-minded reporter, and if she says Gov. Rendell and the operators of this public asset are ignoring requests for public records, I’d pay attention.
