Teen charged with fake hostage threat in New Jersey

A hostage threat where three hostages were reported to be kept in a motel room turned out to be a hoax, and has led to charges for one New Jersey 19-year-old.

The Associated Press reports Ocean Township Police evacuated nearby motel rooms at a motel where the 19-year-old was staying with his mother. According to The Asbury Park Press, 19-year-old Tyler Seward allegedly made a 911 call demanding marijuana and claiming he had the three hostages in the room.

For three hours, police negotiated with the teenager.

The Associated Press says eventually, the teen was coaxed out of the room, only without any hostages.
