A man swimming in waters off southern New Jersey was injured when he swam into an inactive boat propeller.

Brigantine police tell The Press of Atlantic City that the man was trying to swim around the back of the boat, which was off the Inlet beach, when he hit the propeller around 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

The propeller wasn’t running at the time, but the swimmer’s leg was gashed about 5 inches.

The swimmer was taken to a hospital for treatment and was released later Sunday. His name was not released.
