Storm downs trees and power lines; power still out
Cleanup is underway after a quick band of severe weather downed trees and power lines shortly before 8 p.m. last night.
The worst damage from the drenching rains and strong wind gusts appears to have been isolated, affecting areas largely in northern New Castle County. In neighborhoods around Naamans, Foulk and Grubb Roads in North Wilmington, big heavy trees snapped in half, knocking out power to hundreds and shutting down area roads.
Delmarva Power says more than a thousand of its customers are without power; power restoration isn’t expected until at least 8:00 p.m.
Meantime, residents will have to deal with another round of storms later today. The National Weather Service is predicting scattered showers and thunderstorms for New Castle County, mainly after 2 p.m. The forecast reveals more of the same throughout the rest of the week.
