St. Joe’s new president a 1972 graduate

St. Joe’s University last night announced the end of its search for a new president.

Kevin Gillespie, SJU class of ’72, will become the university’s 27th president on July 1, 2012.

The Philadelphia-area native has been working as the associate provost of the Loyola Univerity Chicago’s University Centers of Excellence while serving on his alma mater’s board of trustees, The Hawk reports.

Gillespie will replace interim president John Smithson and former president Timothy R. Lannon, who left earlier this year. Lannon was to be replaced by Father Joseph O’Keefe, but a physical revealed a heart condition that prevented him accepting the role.
