St. Bridget and Holy Child schools slated to merge

The Archdiocese of Philadelphia has released a list of recommended schools to close or consolidate as of June 2012.  St. Bridget in East Falls and Holy Child in Manayunk are on that list.

Under the plan, St. Bridget Elementary School on Stanton Street will merge with Holy Child Elementary School on Hermitage Street. The consolidated schools would operate out of Holy Child’s current location on Hermitage Street.

Holy Cross in Mt. Airy is also scheduled to merge with Our Mother of Consolation in Chestnut Hill.  Under the plan, those two schools would take over the Our Mother of Consolation site on E. Chestnut Hill Avenue.

In response to higher costs and lower enrollment, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia tasked the Blue Ribbon Commission with evaluating the Diocese’s education plan and recommending changes. The Archdiocese announced those recommended changes on Friday afternoon.
