Speed cameras could be debated today
State lawmakers returning from a two-week Easter break could consider a measure allowing speed cameras to be used in construction or school zones.
Today’s House agenda includes the bill which would allow the state to use cameras to enforce speed limits similar to the way they are currently being used to ticket drivers who run red lights. The bill only allows tickets to be issued to drivers going at least 11 miles per hour over the speed limit. Initial violations would result in a fine as high as $75, but would not add points to a driver’s license.
