South Jersey animal shelter improperly euthanized cats, state says
A state inspector says a South Jersey animal shelter euthanized more than 300 cats this year before the required holding period was completed.
NJ.com reported a state health inspector visited the Gloucester County Animal Shelter in Clayton in October. The inspector found more than 300 cats were improperly euthanized along with dozens of dogs and a rabbit. Some of the animals had not been scanned for a microchip, and many of the cats were euthanized with an injection to the body cavity instead of the required intravenous injection.
The report also detailed several disease control-related issues.
The incidents occurred between January and October.
A county spokeswoman said the issues have either been corrected or are in the process of being corrected.
