Somerton man tortured, killed wife

As NEast Philly reported earlier, a Somerton woman was found dead in her home yesterday morning.

Police arrived at the scene after neighbors reported hearing screams coming from the house on the 10800-block of Gifford Street. There, they found Shakuntla Guru, 42, had been beaten with a shovel handle, burned and choked. After being questions, her husband, 53-year-old Ashok Kumar Guru, was arrested for the murder, which was the apparent result of a dispute about infidelity.

Investigators are still awaiting autopsy results to determine the cause of death.
