Slower drivers reap the benefits of timed lights

Philadelphia’s green wave has little to do with energy efficiency or eco friendliness.

The initiative to keep your car moving will probably be a little easier on your car, but it’s also meant to keep you from idling in traffic.

Pine and Spruce streets have been designated green waves for the last year, as Peter Crimmins explains, meaning drivers traveling 20mph should be able to make all the green lights between Front and Broad streets.

It probably won’t prove as beneficial for cyclists, who’d also have to go 20mph to make all the lights, except to ease the speed of the cars moving alongside them.
