Shuttle service across Route 72 Causeway resumes

A shuttle service that allows pedestrians and cyclists to cross the Manahawkin Bay Bridge resumes this week, state officials announced.

According New Jersey Department of Transportation spokesman Steve Schapiro, the sidewalk that connects the mainland to Long Beach Island is closed during the construction of the Route 72 Manahawkin Bay Bridges project.

The free shuttle bus to accommodate pedestrians and cyclists heading to Long Beach Island will run from Route 72 and Morris Boulevard in Beach Haven West to 3rd Street in Ship Bottom, returning westbound at the Dutchman’s Brauhaus on Bonnet Island and stopping immediately after the bridge crossing at East Bay Avenue in Manahawkin.

The shuttle will operate seven days a week while the bridge’s sidewalks are closed. State officials expect the entire bridge project to finish by 2020.
