It may be a “bad week to be a seal,” but it’ll be a good day to be on the oceanfront in Long Branch, as Discovery brings a live event to kick off its annual Shark Week.

Our pals at the Long Branch Police Department hipped us to this event, which will include folks from Discovery talking about the week’s programming, giving away prizes and live-Tweeting, according to the LBPD’s Facebook page. You can also get a sample of a “shark bite” taco, says Discovery

The event takes place at from 2 to 6 p.m. today, at Pier Village. Look for the giant shark fin in Festival Plaza, and be thankful you’re not a seal.

Tomorrow, the Shark Week crew visits Sea Bright, Highlands and Union Beach, where Discovery will provide a free lunch to Habitat for Humanity volunteers working on post-Sandy rebuilding. I think they’re gonna need a bigger taco truck.
