Serious crash shutters Route 72 westbound in Barnegat Monday morning
Police are investigating a serious motor vehicle accident that occurred on Route 72 in Barnegat early Monday morning.
Authorities responded to the scene of a multi-vehicle crash involving an overturned vehicle near the intersection of Route 72 and Route 539 shortly before 6 a.m. that required a medevac response, according to emergency radio transmissions.
The Route 72 westbound lanes are closed for an accident investigation, which will continue for several hours, the Barnegat Police Department said in a release issued around 8 a.m.
All westbound traffic is being diverted to Route 539 north. Eastbound lanes will remain open.
Police have not released additional information as of mid-morning.
