Sen. O’Pake, 70

    Pa. State Sen. Michael O’Pake died this morning follwing complications from heart surgery last month. O’Pake, the longest-serving Pennslyvania legislator, was elected to the House in 1968 and the Senate in 1972. The Democrat served as the first chairman of the Senate Aging and Youth Committee.

     

    He passed away at Reading Hospital and Medical Center.

    Senate Democratic Leader Jay Costa (D-Allegheny) said of O’Pake: “Mike was a friend and colleague who could be counted on for kind words and sage advice in the most trying circumstances.  He worked across the aisle and built bridges trying to find solutions that help all Pennsylvanians.”
