The Coast Guard has suspended the search for a missing swimmer off Island Beach State Park.

The 25-year-old man went missing while swimming off the park in Ocean County shortly before noon Friday.

Police say it was the man’s first time trying to swim in the ocean.

The man is white and has dark hair. He was wearing red shorts.

The search involved two boats from the Coast Guard station in Barnegat Light, a helicopter from the Coast Guard’s Atlantic City air station and numerous local responders.

The Coast Guard might not resume its search Saturday. But local agencies plan to keep looking for the man.
