School District releases data on individual facility conditions

NewsWorks partner the Public School Notebook has obtained and reviewed data released by the School District of Philadelphia that lists the conditions of the city’s individual schools.

Facility conditions, utilization rate and academic rankings are available for all the schools.

The Facility Condition index weighs the ration of repair costs to replacement costs, and facilities with an FCI of 66 percent or higher may not be worth the repairs needed. The district, though, will use a 75 percent FCI as its high point.

In terms of utilization, 85 percent is the ideal capacity. District buildings average about 67 percent.

School performance are based on academic performance and measured on a one-to-10 scale, with one being the best.

Based on this information, the Notebook has the list of school in danger of closing.
