Saturday at the Market — Scenes from Reading Terminal [photos]

Last weekend marked the first photojournalism workshop from WHYY’s Adult Learning Courses and View Finders blog. A small yet passionate group of photographers gathered to discuss the basic principles of photojournalism and focus on creative techniques to improve ones skills as visual storytellers.

The group ranged from novice photographers to visual artists looking to reignite their passion for taking still images. Participants put tips into practice as they hit the streets of Philadelphia and headed to Reading Terminal Market where each photographer focused on one or two vendors with a shot list in hand.

After the initial hustle and bustle, many of the photographers decided to capture the quieter side of the market; a young woman filling candy boxes, a cook reaching for the top shelf, or a vendor reading the newspaper. Photographers shared their images in a “show-in-tell” session and although there were far more images worthy of publication, above are just a few images captured from Saturday morning at the market.
