Sam Katz a no-go for Mayor
More breaking political news from Morning Edition’s Jo Ann Allen: Democrat Sam Katz has decided not to run in the 2011 Democratic Primary for Mayor.
Katz has run three unsuccessful campaigns as a member of the Republican Party for Mayor of Philadelphia – in 1991, 1999 and 2003.
He’s now a registered Democrat, and was expected to run as such in the upcoming mayoral race.
As WHYY’s Dave Davies reported earlier this year, the party switch could have helped him finally clinch a win. But now it looks like the fourth time won’t be the charm, either.
In a statement, Katz says this was not an easy choice, and that both political and personal factors helped determine his decision.
