Rutgers to endow chair named for Gloria Steinem

An endowed chair in media, culture and feminist studies at New Jersey’s flagship public university will be named in honor of noted women’s rights activist Gloria Steinem.

The New York Times reports Rutgers University will announce its plans Monday.

The chair will be a collaboration between several schools and institutes at the university. It will be endowed by grants from the Ford, Knight, and Revson Foundations and individual gifts from private citizens.

The chair’s occupant will teach and research ways to include more diverse voices in the media. That person also will convene a twice-yearly conference of leaders and scholars in media and technology.
