Rutgers proposes merging its 2 law schools

Rutgers University is considering merging its two law schools into one entity that would be among the nation’s largest law schools.

Many details have not been worked out. But University President Robert Barchi tells The Star-Ledger that campuses would remain in Newark and Camden.

Barch announced the concept at a Rutgers Board of Governors meeting on Thursday.

The deans and faculty of both campuses support the move, saying the change would mean the campuses would not have to battle each other for students and faculty.

The change, which could go into effect by the fall of 2014, would need the approval of the university’s Board of Governors and law school accrediting agencies.
