Rutgers joins top consortium of research schools

It’s not just Rutgers University’s sports profile that stands to get a boost from joining the Big Ten conference.

The university announced Wednesday that it’s joining the Committee on Institutional Cooperation, an academic consortium that includes all the universities in the Big Ten plus the University of Chicago.

Rutgers is set to join the consortium on July 1. The University of Maryland, another incoming Big Ten member, is also invited.

Membership gives students access to more courses through distance learning agreements, more volumes through library sharing and more study-abroad access.
